I can't bring myself to care much about Arlen Specter switching parties. My first thought was along the lines of "It's about time." Just in terms of truth-in-packaging, I'm glad to see it. Specter has never been much but an opportunist, which makes him exactly like 90% of everyone else in Washington. He will likely be as much help to the GOP as ever, which is to say none.
Also, Justice Souter is retiring. He hates Washington, apparently, which may be the only thing on which he and I would be in sympathy. He, like Specter, has been reliably disappointing to conservatives. He feels confident, I suppose, that he can now retire with some assurance that he will be replaced with someone who thinks the same way he does. There is buzz that Obama may choose a Hispanic female to replace Souter. What... they can't find a gay Hispanic female?
And finally, Joltin' Joe Biden is in hot water because he spouted off about the terrifying health risks of public transportation. I don't know anyone who makes travel decisions based on the on-air ramblings of a vice president, though, so I don't see making a huge deal of it. I mean, this is classic Joe Biden, idn'it? No one at all familiar with Joe Biden should be very surprised at anything that comes out of his mouth, at this point.
