Apologies for the radio silence the last few days. Two unexpected family funerals in one week, and a fair amount of travel associated with each. Your blog author was concerned about a number of things, but blogging was not particularly high on the list.
I'm thinking about an internet rule; for every two hours spent blogging or otherwise on the net, I have to either, A) go knock on the door of one of my neighbors, just to see how they're doing, B) call a family member, or C) write someone a brief note or card and mail it. Handwritten notes are cool.
In fact, letter writing (on real paper, even) would be a tremendous activity to pull from the cold ashes of the bonfire of tradition that was the 20th century . Ooh! I wonder where I might find a good quill pen? Or maybe a nice ballpoint. My father-in-law collected them, and had some real beauties. I tried one, and it was like writing on silk.
*(BTW... apologies also that the membership packets are tardy. Their release from our secret, underground distribution center is imminent!)

I'm very sorry to hear about your bereavements.
I sometimes feel I should write more letters, but the sober truth is that reading a letter is often more trouble than writing it! But I do, when writing a greeting card, try to cover the entire space inside. Personally I think the internet has led to a great epistolary revival.
My own fantasy is to have a non-eletronic typewriter. The feeling of a keyboard underneath your fingers is delicious, but the resistance of a typewriter is so much more rewarding. I love that rattle-rattle-rattle you hear on old films when a secretary is typing up a business letter.

My sincerest condolences.
On the matter of writing, my girlfriend and I got the jump on you -- we handwrite our love letters to each other. 8^)
I like your principles here, though... if only I had more interesting neighboors... (darned suburb lifestyle/mentality...) ah, well, I'll start writing and calling friends who aren't neighboors. (Hey, I'm antisocial, I have to work up slowly.)
