This is a kind of project I have had in mind for some time. Though I love landscape, I'm more fascinated by small details, like the sun coming through these mushrooms. I have also always enjoyed the idea of large paintings of very small things. This one is only 24" x 24", but this still makes these mushrooms dozens of times larger than they are in nature. I'd love to do some truly BIG paintings of the same kind of subjects. Maybe 4' or larger.

This was painted as a commissioned still life, something I really enjoy doing. A commissioned still life can be a way to draw new insights from some of the objects that are important to us, that represent larger realities, and to present these things to subsequent generations.

This was commissioned as a gift for an orange grower. Hope she likes it!

This is a demo painting from a recent workshop I presented at the studios of my artist friend Susan Edgmon. A good time was had by all. The copper pot is hers, the key and the books are from my collection. The fruit is now gone.
