I've begun laying in the flat table surface, as well as the forms of the grapes - still working my way forward, but as things progress I'll be jumping around quite a lot, working local colors into adjacent objects (reflection) and otherwise increasing the extent to which the forms dialogue with one another and the space they inhabit. Note the softness of some of the edges on the vase and the brass. I'll modify the edges on the grapes, as well. Regardless of how we see things, hard edges grab the eye and I try to limit them to just a few areas of special emphasis, otherwise they get visually tiresome and flatten the space, making objects look more like paper cutouts. This is one way I get to control the space, the focus and move the viewer's eye around the painting.
I love this idea! It is so fascinating to be able to witness the stages of your painting techniques. Thank you!
