I've written before about my old faithful runabout, the 1998 Plymouth Neon. Last time I was keen to give the beast a proper name, as it has served me well and more-or-less reliably, and I even made the quest for a name into a contest, promising "the winning entry will receive some kind of prize, probably.".
Turns out... I win! I did receive a few fine, creative and erudite suggestions, for which I'm grateful, but nothing really stuck.
As I sat at the table eating my morning eggs and bacon, the question returned to my mind. I had already rejected Shadowfax and Rocinante as being too mythically heroic on the one hand, and unoriginal on the other, but I liked the idea of using the name of a famed literary horse, preferrably a white one, as the car is white.
I thought a minute... a white horse, a legendary white horse...
Then - *headsmack!* - of course! The White Horse! (after Chesterton's epic poem). So, the hearty compact will now be called The White Horse.
Now I want to get a sticker for the back window...
