I note that one commenter on the linked story called Dr. Morgentaler a "friend of women" for his tireless promotion of legalized abortion.
Let's be frank, though, and admit that he has been no friend to all the women he has prevented being born. He may be seen by some as a friend to women - once they make it out of the womb - until that point, at least, they're on their own.
And if he were a real friend to women, he might be more concerned about the horrible trauma that abortion is for so many women who choose it. But as he does not find that reality politically expedient, it is swept under the rug - or I should say, it is tossed into the incinerator with the rest of the organic waste.
Some women are just more equal than others. Those who never make it out of the womb (ooohh, tough luck!) and those who suffer the rest of their lives from their "choice" don't figure into Dr. Morgantaler's social equations.
What do they call it in wartime... collateral damage? A full fourth of the last couple of generations is missing. Ah, well... you have to break a few dozen million eggs to make an omelet. Had we burdened ourselves with all those extra hungry mouths, we likely wouldn't be sitting on such a robust econo-... umm, that is, our social programs wouldn't be in such sound financial conditio-... err, why, we would have seen an increase in divorce and out-of-wedlock births...
That is to say, things would probably be even worse than they are now! Keep telling yourself that, and you may start to believe it.
